Since the introduction of the new United Kingdom Passport in October 2010 there are several new security features, e.g. a chip, watermark, biographical page and a secondary image – all covered in a new design which brings UK passports in line with other EU country passport designs.<\/p>\n

These new features were necessary, according the the UK Identity and Passport Service. to “ensure that the UK passport remains a highly secure and trusted document meeting rigorous international standards”.<\/p>\n

\"biometric-logo\"It should be noted that some countries – notably the USA – will only admit holders of biometric passports. These passports are identifiable by the addition of the biometric logo to the front cover.<\/p>\n

On UK passports, the logo is gold on a purple background. Other countries may differ.<\/p>\n
